The management of Starzs Investment Company Limited, one of the firms in Starzs Group has offered to provide automatic sea time for whoever will emerge as the best graduating Nautical Science and Marine Engineering students at the third edition of a programme tagged “A Day with Nigeria Maritime Students 2018”.
The programme is organised annually by Platforms Communications owned by a Lagos base maritime journalist, Mr. Sylvanus Obasi.
In an email sent to Platforms Communications recently, Starzs Group which has Mr. Greg Ogbeifun as its Chairman and chief executive officer stated that the best graduating Nautical Science Student will work as Deck Cadet while the Best Graduating Marine Engineering student will work as Engine Cadet on Starzs vessels during the duration of their sea time experience with the firm.
An apparently elated Obasi in a statement made available to Maritime Bits said the management of Platforms Communications appreciates and commends Starzs Group for the kind gesture, and calls on other maritime giants to do same.
The statement recalled that Platforms Communications had revealed plans to honour the best graduating maritime students for 2016/2017 academic session in the following maritime and transport related studies namely best graduated Marine Engineering student 2017; best graduated Nautical Science student 2017; best graduated Admiralty Law student 2017; and the best graduated female maritime student 2017.
Others are best graduated Shipping Management student 2017; best graduated Maritime Transport and Business Studies 2017; best graduated Transport Management student 2017; best graduated Fisheries management student 2017; and the overall best graduated Maritime student 2017.
Obasi said the best graduated maritime students’ award was a concept which aims to stimulate healthy academic competition amongst Nigerian Maritime students.
He called on various professional groups in the sector, government agencies, maritime giants and good spirited individuals to use the opportunity to encourage outstanding academic performance by rewarding the winners with cash donations, automatic employment or scholarship for further studies.
