The Chief Operating Officer (COO), African Circle Pollution Management Limited (ACPML), Mr. Ahmadu Fidi Ahmadu has been appointed as a Fellow of the prestigious Nigeria Institute of Management (Chartered).
Not a few analysts have seen Ahmadu’s appointment as a Fellow of NIM as no mean feat. This is not unconnected with the fact that a high number of its members struggle to be nominated every year. At the end of the day however, only an infinitesimal number scale through the numerous hurdles as the race for it gets keener and keener.
The quest to be appointed as a Fellow of the institute is not far-fetched. Besides the prestige, the institute has over the years, built a reputation of integrity on its modus operandi.
According to a letter approved by the President and Chairman of Council, Nigeria Institute of Management (Chartered), Professor Olukunle Iyanda and signed by the Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Tony Fadaka, Ahmadu’s nomination and conferment was based on his contributions to the development of the institute, management profession and the civil society at large.
An experienced manager of over 15 years with responsibility for all aspects of humanresources including recruitment, staff appraisals, policies and salary implementation andreviews, ACPML has made several strides since Ahmadu mounted the saddle as its COO.
The firm has a build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) 15 years contract with theFederal Government. Among other things, the contract agreement makes provision for the installation of marine pollution facilities at the nation’s seaports situated inLagos, Port-Harcourt, Calabar and Warri with DV Howells of Milford HavenPembrokeshire as its technical partners.
As the COO, Ahmadu is responsible for developing, recommending and orimplementing personnel policies and procedures, compensation and performanceevaluation programmes, preparation and maintenance of handbook on policies.
He is also responsible for communicating and enforcing company policies, developing recruitment strategies and managing the recruitment effort for all personnel,including writing ads, screening applicants, assisting hiring managers with theselection process and ensuring that the hiring process is followed.
A graduate of Business Administration, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, he hasworked in senior positions in the public and private sectors of the economyand has communicated at government level.
Besides ACPML, he has worked as the Releasing Officer with RoRo Oceanic ShippingServices, a shipping firm with the largest fleet of roll-on-roll-off (RoRo) vessels inNigeria. The firm is the sole representative of Grimaldi Lines.
He cut his teeth in the Finance and Account Department of Nigerian Telecommunication Limited (NITEL) at its Maiduguri Territorial Headquarters, Borno State. Besides NIM, Ahmadu also belonged to other professional bodies. These include the Nigerian Institute of Personnel (NIP), and the Nigerian Gas Association (NGA).
He is also a Board Member of National Sports Federations of Nigeria- Rowing, Canoeing and Yachting where he represents the North East geo-political zone of the country. Apart from academic qualifications, Ahmadu has undergone training in the relevant areas of the industry in Nigeria and overseas.
