The first ever female Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Mrs. Mfon Ekong Usoro has emerged as the National President of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Nigeria(CILT-Nigeria).

The election of Usoro who remains the pioneer Director General of Nigeria’s apex regulatory authority following the enactment of the NIMASA Act 2007 was sequel to her triumph over all the obstacles on her way.

At the election which took place at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja at the weekend, Usoro polled 154 votes to exterminate the ambition of her opponents, Chief Igna Owums and Dr. Alban Igwe.

While Owums got 18 votes, Igwe got only 12 votes.

Apart from Usoro, other officials of the body were also elected. They include the former Director General, Nigeria Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) Zaria, Kaduna State, Dr. Aminu Yusuf who was elected as the Deputy National President; and Mrs. Margret Ogbonnah as the Vice President, West.

Others are Billy D. Filibus as Vice President North; Adeyinwo Olanisesede, Rail Mode; Usman Shuaibu, Maritime Mode; Queen N. Ajayi, Aviation Mode; Sani M. Ibrahim, Road Mode, and Bolaji O. Olowoye, Logistics Mode.

While Olumode Ibrahim was elected for Pipeline Mode, Juliana O. Saka was elected as the female Representative of the Council.


In the same vein, the founder of Women in Logistics and Transport (WILAT) globally, Haiya Aisha Ali Ibrahim retained her position as Permanent Council Member of CILT-Nigeria, while the International Vice President Nigeria, Dr. Usman Gidado, was elected as Council Member.

Other Council members include the Branch Chairmen and President of CILT, Next generation.

The Chairperson of the CILT 2021 National Elections, Mrs. Moji Jimoh who announced the results of the election in Abuja was effusive in her commendation of the transparency and fairness of the processes that culminated in the election of the new leadership of the body.

In line with the Covid 19 protocol, the election was conducted virtually and physically.

The former NIMASA Director General is taking over from Alhaji Abubakar Jibrin who has completed his two terms of office.

A lawyer by profession, Usoro in her acceptance remarks commended everyone for their support in her quest to lead the CILT, Nigeria.

Her words: “CILT-Nigeria is for everyone. I invite all to come together and work as a team. The election is over. There is no looser. I urge all members to be on board as this is a new era for CILT, Nigeria.”
