A technology and safety seminar for the new deep offshore environment will kick off on July 16 in Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre, Lagos.
Described as the first of four seminars on technology and safety to be put together this year, the promoters also said two seminars will be run in London.
The seminar is being organised by Arrowville Energy Limited which has Ms Abiola Sowole as its Executive Chairman.
The Executive Chairman in a statement explained that technology and safety are key to the survival and development of deep offshore oil and gas exploration and production companies.
She argued that the drastic fall in crude oil price should not lead to the cutting of costs on training in safety.
Continuing, she said: “Indeed, apart from the importance of protecting human lives, asset integrity and the environment through continuous improvements in safety, recent research on process safety indicates that new concepts such as ‘operational excellence’, which are used to develop process safety, include business activities and management programmes related to overall operational performance, such that not only is safety improved but also the industry is assisted in becoming more efficient and more profitable”.
According to her, technology-enabled cost reduction strategies are also important for the survival of deep offshore oil and gas exploration and production operations. This informs the title of the Lagos technology seminar of July 16, 2018.
Presentations to be made include ‘Technology Innovations for the Development of Deep Offshore Fields for High Productivity’, ‘Application of Modelling and Simulation Tools for High Capacity Utilization of Equipment and Facilities’, ‘Automation and Mechanization of High-Cost Repetitive Activities’ (Drilling and Well Completion Activities), and the ‘Utilization of Mobility Technologies for Higher Efficiency of Offshore Personnel’.
Others are ‘Cost-Effective Technologies for Carbon Dioxide and Methane Emissions Reduction’, ‘Use of Robotic Technology for Safe and Cost-Effective Technology’ for example, to inspect difficult-to-access elements like offshore risers and to pilot unmanned aerial vehicles such as drones into areas which are dangerous for human activities.
