*Facilitates 5,000 Graduates Job Placement in Maritime
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Employment Clinic, Ms. Ronke Kosoko has hailed the electoral victory of Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu at the 2023 presidential elections.
Kosoko also thumbs up the Lagos State governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on his re-election for a second term of office at the just concluded gubernatorial election in the state.
Describing their electoral victory at the polls as a thing of joy to the people of Lagos State, Kosoko who has been campaigning for the election of Tinubu and Sanwo-Olu prior to the polls, especially among stakeholders in the maritime industry averred that their emergence will bring renewed hope to all Nigerians.
She stated this at a media parley which took place at Morlap Place, Apapa, Lagos recently. Morlap Place is known for its being the rallying point for shipping in the country over the years.
In order to maximize the enormous potentials in the maritime industry, the Employment Clinic CEO charged Tinubu to make maritime industry the fulcrum of his administration’s economic policy trust.
She enjoined Tinubu to appoint those she described as “qualified Nigerians” to head government agencies in the industry and also address myriad of problems that mitigate the growth of the shipping sector of the economy over the years.
Kosoko argued that tackling these challenges headlong by the Tinubu incoming administration would go a long way in resolving the massive youth unemployment in the country, especially in the maritime sector of the economy
Her words: “Tinubu cannot say no to maritime industry. We have been talking to people we know who can be in his cabinet on the economic prospect of the industry for the nation and the need to address various problems which have plagued the sector. We wanted people with experience to be appointed to key agencies in the industry. We want the industry to reclaim its lost glory.
“The Lagos State 30 years master plan launched in 2022 cannot work without maritime. It is important for the Lagos State government to pay more attention to provision of infrastructure that can aid the growth of the industry in the state”
She also used the occasion to unveil what she called a Maritime Conversion Programme (MCP) which is designed to introduce Nigerian graduates to the maritime sector and improve their career prospects.
According to her, MCP which has gotten the backing of the government, would give support and connect not less than 5,000 Nigerian graduates with the right employers in the industry who can engage them in non-technical aspects of the shipping.
She noted that women will be given adequate percentage under MCP, stating that the MCP is not creating jobs but providing a fertile ground for transfer of knowledge from old Nigerians in the industry to young ones.
