The Acting Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Mr. Adewale Bashir Adeniyi has sent the dreaded CGC Strike Force Team packing.
The CGC Strike Force Team was shown the exit door following an approval of its immediate dissolution NCS helmsman.
The dissolution of the CGC Strike Force was contained in a circular which was obtained by Maritime Bits.
Dated July 17, 2023, the circular with the reference number EII/2023/CIRCULAR NO.004 and signed by the Deputy Comptroller General of Customs in charge of Enforcement, Investigation and Inspection, Mr. Mohammed Abba-Kura.
Among other things, the circular directed all officers under the teams to return to their commands or units where they were drawn from.
It also directed the Strike Force Coordinators in respective zone namely A, B, C and headquarters to ensure that “all arms and ammunition are to be properly handed over to the respective Area Commands/Units/Headquarters where they were signed from.
Continuing, the circular said: “All operational vehicles are to be handed over to respective Controllers Federal Operations Unit (FOU) and returns forwarded to the Headquarters respectively. Coordinator Headquarters Strike Force Team should retire operational vehicles under his team to Comptroller Transport and Logistics.
“Records of detentions, seizures and cases in court and any other vital records/information are to be handed over to Controllers of FOUs across the zones while Coordinator Headquarters Strike Force Team should retire all records under his custody to the office of DCG Enforcement, Investigation and Inspection (E,I&I).”
While commending and appreciating the services rendered by the CGC Strike Force Team since they were constituted, the NCS boss directed all concerned to ensure strict compliance with immediate effect.
