Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio has approved the appointment of Barrister Sylvester Okonkwo as his Chief of Staff.
A statement from the Media Unit, Office of the Senate President, also announced Dr. Saviour Enyiekere, as Deputy Chief of Staff.
Okonkwo, a corporate lawyer and an astute politician, spanning more than two decades, was a senatorial aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2019.
Until his appointment, Okonkwo was the chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Chinto Technologies Limited, an ICT and telecommunications outfit.
The Deputy Chief of Staff, Saviour Enyiekere, Ph.D hails from Ika Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
He is an alumnus of the University of Calabar and the Deputy Director General of the Godswill Akpabio Senatorial Campaign Organisation.
Enyiekere was a former two-term Executive Chairman of Ika Local Government Area, former Senior Special Assistant to Akwa Ibom State Government on Boundaries and Conflict Resolutions, former Board Member, Akwa Ibom State Road Maintenance Agency, former student leader and former Senatorial Aspirant, Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District.
He is a member, Nigerian Environmental society, Fellow Institute of Chartered Economist of Nigeria and Professional fellow, Emergency Crisis, Risk and Safety Management Institute of Nigeria.
In the same vein, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas has approved the appointment of 33 legislative aides.
The appointment announced in a statement issued by his office contained 2 Deputy Chiefs of Staff, 2 Special Advisers, 21 Special Assistants and 8 senior legislative aides.
Listed among the aides are Engr. Jamil Ahmed Muhammad (Deputy Chief of Staff, Administration), Dr. Dunkwu Chamberlain (Deputy Chief of Staff, Legislative), Hon Ahmed Dayyabu Safana (Special Adviser, Special Duties), Dr. Hamisu Ibrahim Kubau (Special Adviser, Political Matters), and a long list of Special Assistants. Some other appointees include Zakari Aliyu, named as Principal Private Secretary and Leke Baiyewu, as Chief Press Secretary.
While enjoining the new appointees to discharge their duties in line with the new schedule in his office, Abbas noted that all appointments are with immediate effect.
The Speaker had previously announced the appointment of Dr. Jerry Uhuo and Musa Krishi, as Special Advisers on Policy and Strategy, as well as Media and Publicity respectively.
