Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mr. Mohammed Bello Koko

The former Executive Director, Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr.  Ishaku M. Shakarau has hailed the appointment of Mr. Mohammed Bello Koko as the substantive Managing Director, Nigerian Port Authority (NPA).

Koko was prior to his appointment, the Acting Managing Director of NPA. He was hitherto the NPA Executive Director, Finance and Administration.

President Mohammadu Buhari had eight months ago appointed the Acting Managing Director of NPA following the suspension of the substantive Managing Director, Ms Hadiza  Bala-Usman. Her suspension from office was hinged on allegations of financial impropriety and official insubordination.

Buhari confirmed the appointment of Koko as the substantive Managing Director of the NPA in a press statement issued by the Ministry of Transportation.

The press release which was dated February 15th, 2022 was signed by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Eric Ojiekwe.

Apparently pleased with the development, Shakarau in a felicitation letter addressed to Koko stated that the appointment was well deserved.

The letter which was sighted by Maritime Bits said “the board, management and entire staff of The Havilah Maritime Services Limited, Apapa Lagos wish to congratulate you on your confirmation as the substantive Managing Director of the NPA.

Shakarau who is presently the Chairman of the company stated that Koko’s appointment was an “attestation of the standard fact that success is truly measured by hard work, discipline and zeal to succeed which you have proved”. While wishing him well in his new office, he expressed hope that the new NPA helmsman would record more accomplishments in the maritime industry in the years ahead.
