Officials comprising Lagos State and Federal Governments have recovered the body of a yet-to-be-identified man who plunged in the Lagos Lagoon atop the magnificent Ikoyi-Lekki Link Bridge, Lagos.

The officials include those of the Nigeria Police Force, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the State Waterways Authority (LASWA).

Maritime Bits had on August 8, 2023 reported that the man in an apparent bid to commit suicide dived into the waters taking passers bye unaware.

The recovery of the body Thursday was sequel to the futile efforts to rescue him on the day of the incident.

Apparently voicing the frustration in rescuing the man, the Permanent Secretary, LASEMA, Dr. Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu said upon receipt of the report, the officials of the Marine Rescue Unit of LASEMA to the scene.

“We immediately commenced search and rescue. Let me state that the information is not clear, but we have to move down there because it involves life and we are putting everything humanly possible to ensure the rescue. They could not give us the description of the person that jumped, but we were told that they noticed when he jumped.”

The Public Relations Officer (PRO), Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Benjamin Hundeyin said: “We are still searching, but we are yet to sight anybody. There is no video of him jumping, and we can’t confirm if he is a dispatched rider.”

The frantic efforts of the rescuers however yielded result as the body of the man was recovered yesterday.

As at press time, the body has been taken to the hospital.
