The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has boosted security in the nation’s seaports, especially those situated in Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre, Lagos with the donation of security accoutrements to the Ports Authority Police, Western Command.
Maritime Bits checks revealed donation is part of efforts to strengthen security across the nation’s seaports and waterfronts.
The donation was made recently on behalf of NPA Managing Director, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho by the Port Manager, Lagos Port Complex (LPC), Apapa, Mr. Adebowale Lawal who was accompanied by other top officials.
This was disclosed in a press statement signed by the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Port Authority Police, Western Command, ASP Isaac Hundeyin and made available to Maritime Bits.
Apparently pleased with the gesture, Lawal stated that the donation underscores NPA commitment to enhancing the security architecture of the nation’s ports.
The Port Manager noted that the provision of the security accoutrements would further support the operational effectiveness of the Ports Authority Police in safeguarding critical maritime infrastructure.
He explained that it would also ensure the safety of port users and preventing any untoward incidents within the port environment and along the waterfronts.
The donated items included bulletproof vests, tactical helmets, raincoats, touch lights, handcuffs, operational boots, batons, and other essential operational equipment designed to enhance the efficiency, safety, and preparedness of police personnel in the discharge of their duties.
Receiving the items on behalf of the command, the Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police, Western Command, CP Oluwatoyin Agbaminoja expressed profound appreciation to Dantsoho and the management of NPA for the timely intervention and continued support to the command.
Describing the donation as a demonstration of the strong partnership between NPA and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in ensuring the security of the nation’s maritime gateways, Agbaminoja assured the management of NPA that the equipment would be judiciously deployed to enhance policing operations and further strengthen security across the ports.
Police Chief reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining a safe, secure, and conducive environment for port operations, trade facilitation, and economic activities.
She also pledged sustained collaboration with all maritime stakeholders to ensure Nigeria’s seaports remain safe, secure, and globally competitive.
