All is now set for the visit of the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Tin Can Island Command, Comptroller Dera Nnadi to the secretariat of the umbrella body of journalists covering the maritime sector of the economy, Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) today Friday July 12, 2024.
Already, the secretariat of MARAN situated at 13c Marine Road, Apapa, Lagos is wearing a new look as members of the association anticipate his visit.
The visit which remains the first by any high ranking government official since MARAN moved from its former secretariat at Atlantic House, Apapa late last year is expected to give the Customs Chief an opportunity to interact with the members of the association on the roles and responsibilities of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) as it relate to his command.
The interactive session which is the first in series of engagements MARAN which has Mr. Godfrey Bivbere as its President has outlined in the months ahead is expected to provide the CAC an opportunity to provide an insight into the activities of his command.
In the same vein, Nnadi will use the occasion of the visit to tell members of the association what his command is doing to facilitate trade, generate revenue into the federal till as well as anti-smuggling measures put in place to curtail smugglers of items listed in the Import Prohibition List (IPL) and the Export Prohibition List (EPL).
The IPL and EPL are determined by the Federal Government fiscal policies and they are enforced by the NCS High Command across the country.
Maritime Bits had reported that Nnadi who had occupied various positions in NCS over the years has remained a dedicated officer of the service.
Cerebral and frank to a fault, Nnadi’s achievements and impacts in the various positions he has occupied are not unknown to stakeholders in the maritime industry.
