Following the expiration of the tenure of Dr. Bashir Jamoh as the Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), the Executive Director, Finance and Administration, Mr. Chudi Offodile has taken over the reins of administration as the Acting Director General of NIMASA pending the appointment of a substantive person.
Jamoh’s exit was sequel to the end of his four year tenure on Sunday March 10, 2024 and the refusal of President Bola Ahmed Bola Tinubu to renew his appointment for another for years.
Prior to his appointment, Jamoh was the Executive Director, Finance and Administration when Dr. Dakuku Peterside held sway as the Director General.
At a brief handover ceremony at the new multi-billion naira imposing NIMASA Towers, the new corporate headquarters of the agency in Victoria Island, Lagos, Monday, Jamoh formally handed over to Offodile.
It is on record that Offodile was appointed at the same time with Jamoh four years ago alongside two others as Executive Director.
Jamoh expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for giving him the opportunity to serve as the Director General just as he enjoined his successor to consolidate on the gains he has made in the Federal Government agency in the past four years.
His words: “I wish to express gratitude to Almighty Allah and the Federal Government for the privilege given me to serve Nigeria in this capacity, as I count myself a privileged Nigerian to have occupied this position, while also contributing my quota to the Nigerian maritime sector. Let me also use this opportunity to assure the staff of the agency that wherever I am, I will still remain a part of this family; a place I have spent the active 30 years of my life.”
The former NIMASA helmsman used the occasion of the handover ceremony to laud the staff of the agency for their cooperation and professionalism when he held sway as the Director General.
Offodile in his response expressed gratitude to Jamoh for being a guide to me upon assumption of office as the Executive Director, Finance and Administration four years ago.
According to him, the industry will continue to call on Jamoh who hails from Kaduna State from his wealth of experience and expertise he has gathered over the years in NIMASA.
