The inauguration of the newly elected executives of the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) will take place at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos on June 23, 2026 by 10am prompt.
The association said it will use the event to unveil what it called “a fresh agenda” aimed at promoting ethical journalism in the maritime sector.
The event with the theme: “Upholding Ethical Journalism for Maritime Development,” is expected to attract top players in the maritime, shipping, logistics, security, media and beyond. Already, heads of key regulatory agencies and leaders of various maritime associations have indicated interest in attending the event.
These were contained in a press statement issued by MARAN and made available to Maritime Bits at the weekend.
According to the statement, the Chairman of the occasion is the President of the Maritime Security Providers Association of Nigeria (MASPAN), Mr. Emmanuel Maiguwa Gankino while a public relations and event management expert, Mr. Bolaji Abimbola, will deliver the keynote address.
Among dignitaries expected are the Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola; the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho; the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Mr. Pius Akutah Ukeyima; and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, alongside captains of industry, terminal operators, shipping companies, freight forwarders and other stakeholders across the maritime value chain.
Speaking ahead of the inauguration, MARAN President, Mr. Oluyinka Onigbinde described the event as a defining moment in the association’s quest to deepen professionalism, credibility and responsible maritime reporting.
He said the new executive would focus on strengthening the association through capacity building, constructive engagement and adherence to ethical standards.
He stressed that responsible journalism remains critical to transparency, accountability and sustainable growth in Nigeria’s maritime industry and the nation’s blue economy aspirations.
