In a bid to forestall any break down of law and order in view of the June 12, 2024 democracy day celebration across the country, the Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, CP Olanrewaju Olawale Ishola has assured that the command has mapped out strategies to ensure the close protection of critical national infrastructure in the nation’s seaports situated in Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre, Lagos.
Maritime Bits had reported that no fewer than three seaports including Nigeria’s first ever deep seaport are located in Lagos. Others are the one located in the Lagos Ports Complex (LPC) and Tin Can Island Port (TCIP), Apapa.
These ports are beside other lighter terminals in the city which remain critical facilities to the nation’s economy.
Ishola in a statement obtained by Maritime Bits assured that there will be free flow of traffic in and out of all port complexes to avoid all forms of vehicular clustering in and around the ports corridors.
According to the statement which was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, ASP Isaac Hundeyin, the CP maintained that no form of road blockage, harassment, or intimidation of law-abiding Nigerians will be tolerated by men and officers of the command.
The Police Chief enjoined those doing legitimate business at the ports to remain law-abiding and go about their lawful businesses during the democracy day celebration.
He reiterated that the command would not hesitate to bring to book any person or group of persons that tries to infringe on the fundamental human rights of other Nigerians.
