In commemoration of his 50th birthday, Lagos base maritime lawyer, Dr. Emeka Akabogu has unveiled two books. The two books are on maritime law and policy.
The two books were presented to the public in a colourful event attended by key players in the maritime sector of the economy and beyond recently.
These maritime stakeholders include the Director of Maritime Services, Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Babatunde Jimoh; Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Bashir Jamoh; and the Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Mr. Mohammed Bello Koko.
Others are the National President, Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANCLA), Mr. Emenike Nwokeoji; President, Ship Owners Association of Nigeria (SOAN), Mr. Sonny Eja; President, Nigerian Chamber of Shipping, Alhaji Aminu Umar; and the Chairman, Starz Investment Group, Engr. Greg Ogbeifun.
The stakeholders who attended the event took turns to eulogise Akabogun on the strides he has made over the years, especially his contributions of to the Nigerian maritime industry as a lawyer and policy expert.
Among other things, the occasion featured an inter-university debate between the University of Lagos and Lagos State University, in addition to the award of prizes to winners of the inaugural Dr. Emeka Akabogu Maritime Writing Challenge “DREAM WRICH”.
Giving an insight into the purpose of the birthday celebration, Akabogu said that the event was his way of giving back to the maritime industry and planting seeds for the future.
His words: “To take advantage of its potentials, the maritime industry needs to activate a range of high value multiplier initiatives concurrently, driven by a strong, industry-grounded intellectual core. Without that, it would be impossible. The young persons we are encouraging are the seeds of that core for tomorrow.”
