The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone ‘A’, Ikeja, Lagos has begun what it called “phased movement” to its newly commissioned ultra-modern command headquarters situated at Iperu, Ogun State.
NCS, FOU, Zone ‘A’ which has all the states in the South-west geo-political zones as its areas operations has been operating from the Lagos State capital, Ikeja for decades.
The phase movement of the unit operational headquarters was sequel to the formal unveiling of the Gateway International Airport at Iperu as well as the commissioning of the ultra-modern command headquarter for NCS, FOU, Zone ‘A’ by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu.
This was disclosed by the Customs Area Controller (CAC), FOU, Zone ‘A’, Ikeja, Lagos, Comptroller Gambo Aliyu in a press briefing with reporters covering maritime industry in Lagos recently.
According to the CAC, the command headquarter which was commissioned by His Excellency, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is equipped with a state-of-the-art infrastructure. This strategic relocation is not merely a change of physical address but a transformative step in the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi’s vision for a fully modernized and efficient NCS.
Aliyu explained that the phased approach will ensure minimal disruption to our operations while allowing officers and men to gradually settle into the new facility. Giving an insight into the benefits of the new location, the Customs Chief said: “This move will significantly boost morale, enhance inter-agency collaboration, strengthen real-time monitoring of smuggling routes across the South-West, and position the unit to deliver even greater results in revenue generation, trade facilitation, and border security. We are confident that the relocation will mark a new era of operational excellence for the Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘A’.
He expressed gratitude to the CGC and his management team for their continued guidance and for providing the required direction which the unit has been thriving on.
The CAC also used the occasion to commend the tireless efforts of FOU operatives and reaffirm the service commitment to securing the nation’s borders against all forms of economic sabotage.
Said he: “We will not relent in our mission to uphold the integrity of Nigeria’s trade environment and protect our economy from illicit trade practices”.
He did not spared the media in his commendation, as he said: “I also deeply appreciate our esteem stakeholders and media partners for their support and modest reportage of our efforts”.
