A new set of executives have emerged in the leadership of the umbrella body of journalists covering the maritime sector of the economy, the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN).
The new executives of the over three decade old association is led by Mr. Oluyinka Onigbinde, an Assistant Editor with Shipping Position Daily. His emergence was sequel to the 20 votes he got at the keenly contested election while his opponent, Rev. John Iwori of Maritime Bits polled only 13 votes. No fewer than 33 members voted at the election which was preceded with manifestoes presentation and over one month intense campaign.
The election took place at the May 2026 meeting of the association which also served as its elective congress.
Apart from the position of President, other positions were filled by unopposed candidates as they did not have any opponent.
They are Vice President, Mr. Obasi Sylvanus; Secretary General, Mr. Fabian Anawo; Ms. Ojelabi Amina, Assistant General Secretary; and Mrs. Ayanfeoluwa Providence, Public Relations Officer (PRO).
Others are Mrs. Ruth Umuna, Treasurer and Pastor Ambrose Okehi, Financial Secretary.
They are expected to steer the affairs of MARAN for a three year tenure. Among other things, they are to promote professionalism and aggressively pursue the welfare and unity of members in the years ahead.
