No fewer than three female lawyers in the maritime sector of the economy were celebrated and honoured in the 2026 International Women Day (IWD).
The three female lawyers who are key stakeholders in the maritime industry include the pioneer Director General, Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Mrs. Mfon Ekong Usoro; initiator and pioneer President, Maritime Arbitrators Association of Nigeria (MAAN), Mrs. Adedoyin Rhodes-Vivour, SAN and the first ever woman to become a learned silk in the maritime industry, Mrs. Funke Agbor, SAN.
They were all honoured and celebrated with pomp and pageantry at the prestigious Arise News Channel 100 Leading African Women Award.
At the venue of the event which took place in Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre, Lagos, the three women were eulogized for their various roles in creating positive impact and shaping the maritime sector of the economy over the years.
It is on record that these women are still very active as stakeholders in the maritime sector of the economy, had over the years took several steps to harness the enormous potentials in Nigeria’s blue economy.
The awardees thanked the Chairman of THISDAY and Arise News Channel media group, Prince Nduka Obaigbena and their management for finding them worthy of the prestigious award.
Not a few stakeholders have opined that the recipients of the award truly deserve it as they all acknowledged the various roles they have played to make positive impact in the maritime industry over the years.
