The Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA) Nigeria has applauded what it called the “historic appointments” of two distinguished women leaders in the maritime industry.
While Madam Jemilat Mahamah was appointed as Chairman of the Board of the Ghana Maritime Authority (GMA), Ms. Iroghama Ogbeifun was appointed as a board member, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
WISTA Nigeria in a statement signed by its President, Dr. Odunayo Ani said Mahamah’s appointment marks a pivotal moment for Ghana and the wider maritime community.
According to the statement which was made available to Maritime Bits, WISTA Nigeria said Mahamah’s appointment was a symbol of visionary leadership and dedicated service.
The association maintains that her elevation brings pride to WISTA Ghana, WISTA Africa, and the global WISTA network. We are immensely proud of Mahamah’s achievements.
It added that her leadership promises bold reforms and strategic progress for the maritime sector of Ghana.
On Ogbeifun’s appointment, WISTA Nigeria said: “Ms. Iroghama Ogbeifun’s appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is a testament to her outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s maritime industry. As CEO of Starzs Investments and a long-standing, supportive member of WISTA Nigeria, Ms. Ogbeifun’s inclusion on the NIMASA Board reflects the growing impact of female leadership in shaping maritime governance. Her appointment is a powerful affirmation of women’s capacity to lead and transform the industry.”
It stated that WISTA Nigeria regards both appointments as victories for inclusive leadership and gender representation across West Africa’s maritime landscape.
“These milestones reinforce the association’s commitment to advancing women’s leadership and fostering collaboration across the region”, the statement added.
