The management of Tin Can Island Port (TCIP) has donated educational items to its host community.
The donation which was done as part of TCIP annual corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative include exercise books, bags, and umbrellas.
It is on record that the TCIP initiative brought together no fewer than 600 pupils and students in the community.
The items were given to teachers, pupils and students in five schools within TCIP host community.
The beneficiaries were selected from schools situated at Itun Agan village near Ogogoro village, Apapa, Local Government Area, Lagos State.
They include Tomaro Junior Secondary School, Tomaro Senior Secondary School, Itun Agan Junior Community School, Itun Agan Community Nursery and Primary School and Local Authority Nursery and Primary School.
In his remarks at the occasion, the Port Manager, TCIP, Mr. Sylvester Othuke Egede, enjoined the pupils and students to be humble and maintain a quiet disposition to life in order to acquire knowledge that will empower them in the future.
His words: “Tin Can Island Port understands the importance of investing in our community’s future. That is why we are doing what we are doing today as part of our corporate social responsibilities to our host community.”
Egede who has several years of experience and exposure by virtue of the several positions he had handled in the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) including Traffic Manager, Lagos Ports Complex (LPC), Apapa and Technical Assistant to the former Executive Director, Marine and Operations, Engr. David Omonibeke told the pupils and the students that with proper dedication and focus, they could achieve success in their chosen endeavours.
The Port Manager enjoined them to shun anti-social vices and criminality, just as he counseled them to be obedient to their parents, guardians and teachers.
According to Egede, by supporting local schools, we aim to make a positive impact on the lives of the young people and contribute to the development of the community.
The Head Teacher of Itun Agan Community Nursery and Primary School, Oladosu Olakunle, in his response commended the management of TCIP for the gesture just as he noted that the school administrators, teachers and students were grateful to the authority for its CRS in the affected schools.
According to him, it was the first time in more than 25 years that such a gesture was extended to the schools in the community.
The Baale of Itun Agan Community, Chief Akinyemi Ikuesan, in his remarks at the occasion commended the Managing Director of NPA, Mr. Mohammed Bello-Koko for approving the CSR,
He also thanked the management of TCIP for the initiative and for bringing what he called “joy and happiness” to the faces of the children in the community.
The royal father enjoined the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the educational items.
A teacher from Local Authority Nursery and Primary School, Mr. Ogunmefun Adebayo also thanked NPA and TCIP in particular for their good gesture.
His words: “The donations of resources and mentorship programme have significantly enhanced our student’s learning experience. We are thankful to the port authority for remembering us and the commitment to our community.”
