The Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, Mr. Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba has pledged the command’s support for the umbrella body of journalists covering the maritime sector of the economy, the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN).
Maikaba also commended MARAN which remains the oldest maritime journalists beat association in the country for its responsible reportage of the maritime industry as well as the activities of the command.
The Police Chief stated this when the President of MARAN, Mr. Godfrey Bivbere led other executives of the association to the Command Headquarters, Apapa, Lagos recently.
He expressed appreciation for the warm hand of fellowship MARAN extended to him and the command.
He also pledged a cordial working relationship with MARAN in the discharge of his statutory roles and responsibilities.
A statement issued by MARAN and made available to Maritime Bits said the visit was meant for the executives of the association to familiarize themselves with the operations of the command and show solidarity with Maikaba.
According to the statement, Bivbere assured Maikaba of MARAN support just as he pledged that achievements of the command would be given wide coverage.
Bivbere said MARAN hinged its support for the command on the fact that it plays a pivotal role in securing the gateway for international trade and foreign exchange earnings for the country.
