Stakeholders in the maritime industry have reiterated their resolve to partner Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) to resuscitate the biggest maritime event in Nigeria, Nigerian Maritime Expo (NIMAREX).
The maritime stakeholders who are also members of the Planning Committee of NIMAREX 2025 were led by the former Director General, Indigenous Ship Owners Association of Nigeria (ISAN), Funmi Folorunsho.
Other members of the committee include the Chairman, Ports Consultative Forum, Mr. Bolaji Sunmola, Captain Ebubeogu Iheanacho, Women in Maritime, members of the maritime media amongst others.
They stressed the fact that about 92 percent of world trade is by sea, 70-80 percent of cargoes that come to Africa are destined for Nigeria.
Iheanacho in his remarks emphasised that there is the need for government, ship owners, master mariners, lawyers, journalists and researchers to work together to showcase these enormous potentials in the upcoming event.
The President of LCCI, Mr. Gabriel Idahosa, Director General, Dr. Chinyere Almonah spoke in the same vein just as they recognised the importance of Nigeria’s maritime industry to the growth and development of the country.
Idahosa who promised that he would deliver a paper at NIMAREX 2025 also assured the visiting team that the LCCI will take advantage of NIMAREX 2025 to sensitise stakeholders in Nigeria’s economy on the need to make the country a maritime nation where the potentials are fully harnessed.
Other participants at the meeting urged stakeholders to work in synergy and ensure the success of the conference.
The Federal Government has also been advised to ensure implementation of decisions taken at NIMAREX 2024.
According to them, effective implementation of decisions taken at NIMAREX stakeholders believe would ensure foreign and local networking.
They also stated that it would ensure foreign direct investments (FDI) and fast track development in the maritime sector of the economy.
NIMAREX is the umbrella event and unifying voice for all stakeholders and shipping operators in Nigeria.
It is an annual event that attracts both local and international operators to showcase products, new technologies, services, networking and real business opportunities in the maritime sector.
