Not less than N1.3 trillion has been rake into the federal till by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in its Apapa Area Command, Lagos.
The record-breaking revenue collection of ₦1.378 trillion in the first half of 2025 represents a remarkable 35 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024.
This was made public by the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Apapa Area Command, Comptroller Babatunde Olomu while addressing newsmen in the command headquarters, Apapa recently.
Apparently pleased with the development, Olomu attributed the feat to diligent officers, improved compliance from traders, and the strategic leadership of Comptroller-General of Customs, Alhaji Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.
His words: “We insisted on maximum revenue collection and plugged leakages through effective demand notices.”
Olomu also celebrated several milestones attained by the command in the first half of the year including the first-ever use of the Single Goods Declaration (SGD) via the new B’Odogwu digital platform an upgrade that streamlines cargo clearance and reduces congestion.
According to him, in a bid to further modernize its operations, the command is collaborating with the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) and industry stakeholders to revive rail cargo movement from Apapa Port, aiming to decongest roads and cut logistics costs.
The CAC also revealed the strides the command has made in its enforcement of the fiscal policies of the Federal Government within the period under review.
These include the interception of no fewer than 27 containers of contraband between January and June 2025 with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦9.27 billion. Other items seized by the command include unregistered pharmaceuticals, expired food products, codeine syrup, used clothing, stolen vehicles, and wildlife parts in violation of the CITES treaty
He also disclosed that three bonded terminals were sealed for various infractions, with one already facing prosecution.
The Customs Chief warned that the command has demonstrated its capacity and it shall continue to do more in the second half of the year.
He hailed the inter-agency collaboration with other sister agencies, especially in intelligence sharing, describing it as “a critical force in defeating criminal networks” in the months ahead.
