A non-governmental-organization (NGO), Media Anti-Corruption Initiatives (MACI) has made public its plans to hold a landmark one-day seminar aimed at safeguarding the Federal Government’s flagship trade facilitation project, the National Single Window (NSW).
MACI in statement made available to Maritime Bits revealed that the seminar with the theme “National Single Window: Strategies to Avert Failure.” is scheduled for Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Rockview Hotel, GRA, Apapa, Lagos.
According to the statement, the seminar which is being organized in collaboration with Hynek Media will bring together policy makers, regulators, private sector leaders, and civil society to chart tamper-proof strategies for the effective implementation of the NSW.
The NSW is designed to centralize import, export, and transit documentation, streamline processes, reduce duplication, and enhance transparency.
Federal Government officials project that the NSW could cut transaction costs by 25 percent and boost government revenue as much as 20 per cent.
However, experts warn that Nigeria’s history of reform failures underscore the need for robust implementation safeguards.
The statement which was signed by the Secretary of MACI, Mr. Funso Olojo and the Head, Media and Publicity, Rev. John Iwori disclosed that the seminar will be chaired by the Chairman of the Customs Consultative Committee (CCC), Aare Hakeem Olanrewaju while the Registrar of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN), Hon. Kingsley Igwe will be the Co-Chairman.
Other high-profile participants include the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi who is the special guest of honour; Director, NSW, Mr. Tola Fakolade, special guest of honour; the Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho; Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola; the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), Dr. Pius Akutah; Acting Managing Director, National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Alhaji Umar Yusuf Girei; and the Managing Director, Lagos Free Trade Zone (LFTZ), Mrs. Adesuwa Ladoja.
According to MACI, the seminar also take a look at transparency in NSW, inter-agency rival-free collaboration for NSW success, as well as insight from stakeholders in the maritime sector of the economy.
These stakeholders include top officials of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), importers, exporters, freight forwarders associations, indigenous terminal operators, regulators, as well as LFTZ.
It added that the seminar will provide what it called “a rare opportunity” to align government agencies, private operators, and civil society around a shared vision for a seamless trade ecosystem in the country.
