The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has warned shipping companies and terminal operators against what it called “incessant and arbitrary increases” in their charges without due process.
It stressed that freight forwarders would not tolerate further disregard for established rules of engagement and industry regulations.
In the same vein, it also warned that it would resist any action perceived as a violation of extant laws as such arbitrary increments undermine collective sensibilities and disrupt sustainable freight forwarding practices.
The association made its position known in a letter dated February 10, 2026 and signed by its National Coordinator, Hon. Ibrahim Tanko.
It specifically drew the attention of Hapag-Lloyd and other operators to the need to adhere strictly to laid down procedures before increasing their charges.
“We write to caution you against any attempt to increase shipping and terminal charges without following laid down procedures and due process. Please be informed that we would not allow further disregard to extant rules of engagement and our collective sensibilities,” the letter stated.
The association reiterated its commitment to protecting the interests of freight forwarders and ensuring transparency and fairness in port operations.
NAGAFF which has its headquarters in Apapa, Lagos operates under Part C of Decree 1 of 1990.
Over the years, it has continued to advocate for sustainable freight forwarding practices in Nigeria’s maritime industry.
