The Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria (MARAN) has thumbs up the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Alhaji Bashir Adewale Adeniyi on his historic election as the Chairman of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Council.
Spokesman of NCS, Assistant Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada who broke the news in a release said the election was held during the concluding session of the 145th/146th WCO Council meetings which took place on Saturday, 28th June 2025, at the WCO Headquarters in Brussels.
Maiwada averred that the WCO Council is the highest decision-making body in global customs administration.
MARAN President, Mr. Godfrey Bivbere in a statement made available to Maritime Bits hailed the election as a “well-deserved global recognition” of Adeniyi’s visionary leadership.
According to him, under Adeniyi’s reforms, NCS has been repositioned as a model institution in Africa.
He emphasized that this achievement is not just a win for Nigeria but also a significant milestone for Africa and international trade.
“We at MARAN are proud to celebrate this milestone and look forward to more strategic engagements under his forward-thinking leadership,” he added.
MARAN thumbs up Adeniyi’s commitment to NCS modernization, transparency, and regional trade integration.
