Key stakeholders in the maritime sector of the economy as well as oil and gas industry have key into the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) 50 Drivers of Nigerian Blue Economy book project.
Titled “50 Drivers of Nigerian Maritime and Blue Economy”, the book which is an initiative of MARAN, the umbrella body of journalists covering the maritime industry, is meant to grow public knowledge on the potentials inherent in the emerging sector.
The key stakeholders that signed up for the book initiative include critical government agencies such as the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC), and the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC).
Other industry bigwigs that have indicated interest include the former President, Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA); Chairman, Board of Trustees, Nigeria Shipowners Association (NISA), Chief Isaac Jolapamo; and the Principal Partner, Jean Chiazor and Partners, Dame Jean Chiazor Anishere (SAN).
Apparently giving an insight into why it came up with the book project, MARAN which remains the premier watchdog of the maritime industry expressed worries about the apparent dearth of sufficient public knowledge about the government’s intention for setting up the newly created Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.
MARAN in a statement signed by its President, Mr. Godfrey Bivbere said the book seeks to document the contributions of industry regulators, operators, organizations and individuals who have invested their time, intellect and resources to the growth and development of the maritime sector.
His words: “It will focus on the inputs and impacts of outstanding individuals and organizations to the transformation of the Nigerian maritime industry. Documenting such contributions of individuals and corporate bodies will engender healthy rivalry among stakeholders and fast track development of the sector and the new Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy. The book will in the future serve as a referral and research material for students in higher institutions of learning”.
According to the statement which was made available to Maritime Bits, Bivbere revealed that the book is expected to be launched by the third quarter of the year 2024.
