The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has said the delay by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in uploading its current leadership to the commission’s website is affecting its registration/membership drive nationwide.

This was contained in a statement by the founder and Chairman of NNPP Board of Trustees (BoT), Dr. Aniebonam and made available to Maritime Bits.

Recall that INEC has directed that all political parties must ensure electronics registrations of its members nationwide to enable it participate in the 2027 general elections

Aniebonam stated that the membership drive of the party/registration has been slow due to the continued face-off with the Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso led group.

His words: “INEC is yet to obey the court order, directing it to recognize the Agbo major led National Working Committee (NEC) of the NNPP. The delay led to NNPP not fielding candidates in some elections in the past which is regrettable and embarrassing

“Most of our members, especially those with ambition to run for political offices are becoming sceptical about NNPP’s ability to be part of the 2027 general elections. We had hoped for swift resolution of the internal crisis, with the coming of a new INEC chairman but it is still delayed.”

He said that the NNPP portal is already open and that the registration had begun for members and intending members nationwide, and urged stakeholders of the party to be patient.

According to him, we are optimistic that INEC will do the needful without further delay and it is our hope that members who left the party in the wake of defections shall return. The exit of Governor Abba Yusuf and few others due to escalating court cases can be understood but we are not giving up hope and we believe we will have a better outing in 2027.

He averred that what is certain is that Kwankwaso and Elder Buba Galadima remain expelled from NNPP to teach others lessons that impunity has consequences.
