In order to ensure the sustainable development of the blue economy in Nigeria, the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) have resolved to join forces together.

The Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola who dropped the hint in Lagos recently emphasized the critical role of professionalism in engineering practice as a foundation for Nigeria’s maritime and blue economy development.

NIMASA in a statement signed by its Deputy Director, Public Relations, Mr. Osagie quoted Mobereola saying this while receiving the leadership of NSE led by its President, Engr. Margaret Aina Oguntala during a courtesy visit to NIMASA management in Lagos.

According to the statement which was made available to Maritime Bits, the NIMASA helmsman underscored the importance of engineering expertise in advancing Nigeria’s maritime infrastructure.

He used the occasion to assure NSE of NIMASA’s commitment to closer collaboration in line with the Federal Government’s renewed hope agenda and the blue economy mandate.

Oguntala in her earlier remarks, highlighted the NSE’s alignment with the blue economy initiative, noting that NSE vision complements government efforts to harness the vast opportunities in Nigeria’s marine and maritime sectors.

She expressed confidence that strengthened cooperation between NSE and NIMASA would foster innovation, enhance infrastructure development, and contribute to sustainable economic growth.

The meeting concluded with both parties pledging to deepen collaboration for the benefit of the maritime sector and Nigeria’s economy at large.
