Stakeholders in the maritime sector have given accolades to Customs Area Controller (CAC), Tin Can Island Port (TCIP) Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Comptroller Dera Nnadi for clinching two awards of excellence at the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Award Night in Lagos recently.
At the occasion, Nnadi who is known for his intellectual approach in tackling issues clinched two awards and a certificate of excellence.
He was also decorated with the CGC Gold Service Award medals to a loud applause from those who attended the occasion.
They are award for distinctive performance and award of excellence for work place transformation.
They also poured encomiums on the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Alhaji Bashir Adewale Adeniyi for the two awards Nnadi clinched at the ceremony.
Nnadi who had served in several commands including Seme, was celebrated by colleagues and stakeholders at the award ceremony.
He won the award for his leadership and commitment to deliver on his mandates at TCIP Command.
The awards were presented to him by Adeniyi who recognized the command for its various achievements, transformation and innovative solutions to ensure trade facilitation.
The awards read: “Winner CGC’s Special Award For Work Place Transformation as well as ‘In Recognition of your Distinctive Performance and Commitment to the Ideas and Vision of the Nigeria Customs Service.”
Maritime Bits checks revealed that under the leadership of Nnadi, TCIP command generated N1.2tr as revenue into government coffers as of November 2024 which is the first in the history of the command.
In his response, the CAC attributed the milestone revenue generation achievement to trade facilitation efforts of the officers and men of TCIP command which was complemented with effective enforcement and compliance.
The command under his leadership also successfully remodeled TCIP command administrative building built over 40 years ago.
He dedicated the achievements recorded to officers and men of the command just as he described it as fruits of teamwork, commitment, focus, and dedication of the personnel under his watch.
The Customs Chief expressed appreciation to Adeniyi for the support given to TCIP Command and the honour bestowed on him.
He also called for continuous support from all stakeholders just as he described the awards as a call for increased commitment and a challenge to sustain and improve on the pace of work at the command.
He enjoined business men and women at TCIP to take advantage of the trade modernization project initiatives of the CGC to ensure the use of technology at the port, trade facilitation and paperless port procedures.
The CAC enjoined officers of the command to see the awards as a motivation and challenge to work harder.
