No fewer than 5, 560 personnel of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has been declared legible for the 2026 promotion exercise in the service.

The legibility of the personnel was sequel to the approval of the Board of the NCS which oversees the management of the NCS which has its headquarter in the nation’s capital, Abuja.

Maritime Bits checks revealed that at least 284 Deputy Comptrollers (DC), 633 Assistant Comptrollers (AC), 242 Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC), and 525 Deputy Superintendents are amongst those confirmed for exercise.

“All officers of the rank of Deputy Comptrollers, with effective date of January 1st, 2025, or earlier are eligible to sit for the exercise. In the same vein, all Assistant Comptrollers with effective date of January 1st, 2024 or earlier are to participate in the exercise,” a restricted circular dated September 24th, 2026, endorsed by the Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) Frank Onyeka said.

Onyeka who was prior to his promotion as ACG was the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Tin Can Island Command, Apapa, Lagos said: “due to the current manpower imbalance and available vacancies, personnel of the rank of Superintendents of Customs as well as Customs Assistants, will not participate in the exercise.”

He noted that personnel seeking promotion to the rank of ASC11 and above must possess a minimum qualification of HND or its equivalent, as stipulated in the NCS scheme of service.

According to the circular with reference NCS/ABJ/HRD/185/C/Vol.11, any observed errors and complaints arising from the published details should reach the office of dcg-hrd@customs.gov.ng on or before October 7, 2026.
