A media outlet, Primetime Reporters has fixed October 15, 2026 to organize a lecture to beam searchlight on the nation’s seaports.
To this end, it has concluded plans to bring industry leaders and policymakers together to examine how digital trade platforms can transform Nigeria’s ports into smarter, greener and more competitive gateways.
The annual lecture which is its fifth edition will also feature the presentation of awards to some Nigerians.
The lecture which will be organize under the auspices of Chisann Communications, will focus on the theme, “Smarter Gateways, Greener Logistics: Leveraging the Port Community System and National Single Window for Zero-Emission Trade.”
Scheduled to take place at Rockview Hotels, GRA, Apapa, Lagos by 10:00 a.m, the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of Primetime Reporters, Saint Augustine Nwadinamuo, said the lecture would explore practical ways Nigeria can deploy digitalisation and integrated trade platforms to tackle inefficiencies in the port and logistics chain.
According to the statement which was made available to Maritime Bits, the Port Community System (PCS) and National Single Window (NSW) have the potential to move Nigeria’s ports away from congested, paper-intensive operations towards interconnected and environmentally sustainable trade corridors.
He said the discussion would focus on using technology to improve port efficiency, reduce cargo dwell time and logistics costs, eliminate unnecessary processes and lower carbon emissions.
He explained that the ultimate objective was to strengthen Nigeria’s maritime gateways as globally competitive engines of economic growth.
His words: “The Annual Lecture and Awards, which is the flagship programme of Primetime Reporters, has in the past editions highlighted critical issues and challenges confronting Nigeria’s maritime industry, proffered solutions and set agenda for reforms in the sector.
“This year’s edition will build on those achievements as we continue to play our agenda-setting role towards strengthening the maritime industry and contributing to the economic growth of the country”.
According to Nwadinamuo, beyond the policy and industry discussions, the event will also recognise individuals and organisations whose contributions have advanced Nigeria’s maritime industry and wider economy. The awardees would include chief executives of government agencies, terminal operators, shipping companies and other distinguished stakeholders whose activities have positively impacted the sector.
He described the recognition as an incentive for excellence and a means of encouraging more stakeholders to contribute to the transformation of the maritime industry.
Said he: “We have, after painstaking efforts, selected some worthy stakeholders who have been penciled down for awards as a means of encouraging them and those still sitting on the fence to continue in their various efforts aimed at transforming this critical sector of the Nigerian economy. We believe that no good work should go unnoticed.”
