You must have heard the phrase “gratitude shifts your perspective” but as cliché as it sounds, it is the truth.
Most people are grateful when things are going the way they planned, but the real test is being thankful even when things do not work in your favour.
With current happenings around the world and especially in Nigeria, it is so easy to lose yourself in the different problems that come up daily. You find out that the more you try to make sense of the situation the more complicated it becomes. So, when someone tells you to be grateful, you almost want to scream; you do not understand!
Gratitude does not have to come from an abundance of things. It is a choice to appreciate what you have. It is not ignoring your struggles, but it is understanding that your story has not ended no matter what your reality is showing you.
Today, instead of complaining, look for one thing. It could be the breath in your lungs, people around you that still show up or even the fact that you can read this piece and be thankful.
Remember, it is either the glass is half empty or half full. The choice is yours.
