The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola has denies claims in some quarters that the Federal Government’s port modernisation programme is meant for the ports situated in Lagos alone.
While dismissing concerns that the focus is restricted to Lagos, he clarified that the port modernization project is a nationwide initiative starting with the ones in Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre.
Speaking at the ministry’s combined citizens and stakeholders’ engagement, sectoral performance and ministerial retreat in Lagos, Oyetola stressed that inclusive infrastructure development remains central to the Ministry’s mandate.
“Let me address a concern that has been raised in some quarters — that our focus is limited to Lagos ports. This is not the case.”
Meanwhile, Oyetola has announced a remarkable 160 per cent increase in revenue generated by agencies under his Ministry, attributing the surge to sweeping reforms and a renewed focus on accountability.
Speaking at the 2026 first quarter Citizens/Stakeholders’ Engagement, Sectoral Performance Review, and Ministerial Management Retreat in Lagos, Oyetola said the Ministry’s performance reflects a deliberate shift towards transparency and efficiency.
“In 2023, our agencies generated ₦700.79 billion. By the end of 2025”, he declared.
