A non-governmental organization (NGO), the Media Anti-Corruption Initiative (MACI) has thumb up the management of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) for clinching the Outstanding Maritime Agency of the Year award.
The commendation of MACI is coming on the heels of the Outstanding Maritime Agency of the Year 2025 award won by the multibillion naira government agency at the just concluded Champion Newspaper awards ceremony which took place in Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre, Lagos recently.
MACI in a statement signed by its Chairman, Captain Adamu Mishela and made available to Maritime Bits, expressed delight that NPA clinched the award at the occasion.
Describing it as a “significant achievement”, MACI said the recognition serves as a testament to NPA dedication to excellence in maritime operations, showcasing its commitment to enhancing the maritime sector of the economy.
The NGO emphasized that this award not only honours the management of NPA but also reflects the hard work and dedication of its entire team in the delivery of its mandate.
It noted that the recognition underscores the importance of integrity and transparency in the maritime sector just as it added that it aligned with MACI’s mission to combat corruption and promote accountability in its operations across the country.
“The honour is a direct result of the dynamic leadership of Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, the Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority. Under his guidance, the NPA has successfully implemented innovative strategies aimed at transforming the organization into Africa’s leading maritime logistics hub for sustainable port services. Dantsoho’s vision has been instrumental in positioning the NPA as a key player in the maritime industry, fostering growth and development within the sector. His leadership has not only enhanced operational efficiency but has also attracted international partnerships, further solidifying the NPA reputation on the global stage”, it added.
MACI in its conclusion, hailed the NPA for receiving the award, pointing out that it highlights the importance of leadership, innovation, and integrity in the maritime sector of the economy.
It noted that as the NPA continues to strive for excellence, it has inadvertently set a benchmark for other government agencies in the maritime industry to follow so as to ultimately contribute to the advancement of Nigeria’s maritime sector.
