Many key players in the maritime sector of the economy and beyond will converge at the 2025 edition of the Maritime Annual Maritime Lecture (MAMAL).
Organised by the umbrella body of journalists covering the maritime industry, the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), the event is scheduled to hold on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at Four Points by Sheraton, Victoria Island, Lagos by 10 am prompt.
MAMAL 2025 which is the third edition to be organized by MARAN will focus on “Addressing the Burden of War Risk Insurance on Nigeria’s Maritime Trade.”
Those expected at the event include the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola who will attend as the Special Guest of Honour; the Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola; the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Mr. Pius Akutah Ukeyima; the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Gregory Oaemen and the Executive Director, Operations and Technical, Tantita Security Services Limited (TSSL), Captain Warredi Enisuoh.
Other prominent industry leaders expected at the lecture include the pioneer Chairman, Ship Owners Association of Nigeria (SOAN) and Chairman, Starzs Investment Limited, Engr. Greg Ogbeifun; Lagos base maritime lawyer, Dr. Emeka Akabogu; and former Minister of Interior and Chairman, Integrated Oil and Gas Limited, Captain Emmanuel Ihenacho.
While Ogbeifun will serve as the Chairman of the occasion, Akabogu will deliver a keynote address while Ihenacho will be the guest of honour.
In a statement made available to Maritime Bits, the President of MARAN, Mr. Godfrey Bivbere explained that MAMAL 2025 will provide a platform for what he called “frank discussions and pragmatic recommendations” to ease the huge financial burden imposed by war risk insurance premiums on vessels calling at Nigerian ports.
He noted that the outcome of the lecture would serve as a guide for policy makers and industry players in addressing the issue even as he assured that this year’s edition would be impactful and solution-driven, considering the calibre of participants and the relevance of the theme.
Maritime Bits checks revealed that MAMAL has since its inaugural edition three years ago become a key platform for constructive dialogue among stakeholders on pressing issues affecting the growth and sustainability of the maritime sector of the economy.
